The Climate Smart Agriculture and Rural Enterprise Programme (SAEP) have collaborated with the Ministry of Agriculture and Lands (MOAL) to provide support to the Ministry’s COVID-19 Mitigation and Response Plan. This initiative will focus on the following areas:

  • Establishment of  500 backyard gardens within rural communities
  • Provision of technical/handholding support by the MOAL Extension Staff and SAEP’s Extension/Fisheries Assistants
  • Provision of material support consisting of planting materials and basic hand tools and equipment
  • Promotion of nutritious eating for obtaining a healthy lifestyle

To facilitate the education and promotion of nutrition and healthy eating, the SAEP engaged the Grenada Food and Nutrition Council (GFNC) to implement a three (3) days training targeting the SAEP’s Extension and Fisheries Assistants as well as the selected MOAL Extension staff. This training was held from August 12th -14th, 2020 and provided participants with concise nutrition and meal planning information on the use of selected crops provided in the COVID-19 Backyard Kit. A total of 22 extension staff (SAEP: 12 and MOAL: 10) received the training. It is the intension that this information will then be disseminated with beneficiaries receiving support through the Initiative.
